Welcome
The Scottish Blackface Breeders Association champions the interests of the Blackface breed, and those who farm it. The Association is a responsible custodian of the breed, proactively addressing any challenges, while encouraging farm management systems that ensure the Blackface is a profitable climate and eco-system asset.
The Blackface Sheep Breeders' Association was formed at a meeting in Lanark in August 1901 to promote the interests of the Blackface sheep breed which is the most numerous pure breed in Britain, with the vast majority found in Scotland.
From the outset, the main objectives of the Association were to actively promote the breed and its virtues. To this day, the objectives of the Association are:
To encourage the breeding of the Blackface Sheep.
To further the interests of the breed in every way
To actively promote the breed to a wider audience
To work closely with the NSA and NFU to ensure that hill farming has a viable future
To work closely with auction markets, meat plants and supermarkets to source profitable markets for Blackface Lamb.
The Association is open to anyone who has an interest in the breed. We currently have 1300 members within 14 branches throughout the UK as well as some members in Europe The branches are responsible for promoting the breed within their own areas with the help of the Association and hold meetings and stock-judging competitions throughout the year.
