HEXHAM RAM SALE 2025

A top price of £15,000, together with further highlights at £12,000 and £8,000, underlined a buoyant trade for Blackface rams at the annual North of England show and sale at Hexham. Across the day, 263 rams sold for an average of £1,516.69.

Leading the sale was a ram from Dennis and Stuart Charlton, Whiteside, sired by a £6,000 Hot Bank. He was marked down to Willie, Faye and Ryan Walton, Penpeugh at £15,000.

The second-highest price of £12,000 came for the final entry in the catalogue, from Andrew and Caroline Hunter, The Steel, Hexham. This shearling, sired by a £10,000 Livet, stood sixth in the pre-sale show. It was purchased by The Robsons of the Town Shields flock, Hexham and Jamie and Angus Murray of Sewingshields, Hexham.

Next in the money at £8,000 was a shearling by the £12,000 Dudlees tup, from the Walton family, Wanwood Hill. It was sold jointly to The Robsons of Yatesfield and The Turnbulls of Shepherds Croft.

The pre-sale champion, also from Wanwood Hill and by the same sire, realised £6,500, selling jointly to the Murray Brothers – Andrew of Stell Green and Jamie of Sewingshields.

The pen leader from Messrs Walton, Toft House, this one by a £2,600 Yatesfield bred sire, sold at £7,000 to Dennis & Stuart Charlton, Whiteside.

Completing the top line-up, the reserve champion from Rob and Richard Airey, Brownchesters, sold for £6,500 to John and Jonjo Pattinson, Hot Bank. This ram was a son of an Evistones sire and out of a Stell Green ewe.
