SALE REPORT
Blackface females were in demand at the breeds show and sale of in-lamb ewes and gimmers at Lanark, with the best of the trade hitting five-figures.
Overall, 33 ewes averaged out at £1712.14 and 54 gimmers levelled at £1172.89. Jim Fairlies Drumharvie dispersal averaged £112.80 for 43 head.
Making the top price of 10,000gns, was a one-crop ewe from John Harkin, Loughash, Northern Ireland. Sired by £20,000 Auldhouseburn and out of a ewe by £5500 Dalwyne, she is due with a single, to last years Dalmally purchase, a £26,000 Elmscleugh. Buyers were Veronica and Patrick Fullerton, Draperstown.

Loughash also received 2600gns, for the pen number one, a gimmer by £11,000 Nunnerie, due with a single to £26,000 Elmscleugh, which sold to Robert Cockburn, Hill of Errol, Perth.
Second top, at 7500gns, was a gimmer from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk. One of last year's flushing team, this daughter of £75,000 Dalchirla, out of a ewe by £25,000 Auldhouseburn, sold carrying a single to £160,000 Elmscleugh. Buyer was Vic Bull, Waternish, Isle of Skye.

Auldhouseburn 7500

Late in the sale, Eoin Blackwood's Dalblair ewes, from Muirkirk, sold at 5200gns and 3200gns. Both daughters of £52,000 Crossflatt, the dearer of the two is out of a ewe by £6500 Auldhouseburn, and sold carrying a single to the home-bred Bodyguard, to J Brannigan, Dungannon, NI. The other, at 3200gns, is out of an £11,000 Dyke daughter and sold due with twins to the Bodyguard, to D Harrison, Annalong, NI.
Selling at 4500gns was the first lot in the ring, a three-crop ewe from the MacArthurs Nunnerie consignment from Elvanfoot. Sired by £20,000 Auldhouseburn and out of a £50,000 Pole daughter that has bred shearlings to £12,000, she stood champion at Muirkirk Show in 2018. Carrying a single to £18,000 Auldhouseburn, she sold to David Morrison, Dalwyne, Barr.
At the same money, John Murray, Crossflatt, Muirkirk, sold a gimmer by Tornado, out of a ewe by £16,000 Nunnerie, to the Jacksons at Pole and Donald McVicar, Lephinchapel, both Argyll. Shes due with twins to £150,000 Auldhouseburn.
Paul Coulson, High Staward, Langley, made 4200gns for his sole entry, a two-crop ewe by £50,000 Crossflatt, out of a ewe by McCoy. In lamb with twins to the £150,000 Auldhouseburn, she sold to R Flett, Blackpark Croft, Inverness.
David Baillie, Calla, Carnwath, received 4000gns, for a two-crop ewe which was reserve female champion at last year's National Show. Sired by a 1000gns McAleer ram, she sold carrying a single to the 5500gns Conway, to Conway Bros, NI.
Best for the Midlock consignment, from the Wight family, was 3800gns for their first prize ewe, a four-crop by £25,000 Crossflatt, out of a ewe by £90,000 Dalchirla. She sold carrying triplets to £24,000 Connachan, to Hazel Brown, Birthwood Farm, Coulter.
The champion came from Midlock's Glespin pen, a gimmer by £24,000 Connachan, which has previously bred sons to £17,000. Out of a ewe by £7000 Midlock, she is due with twins, to a home-bred son of Stag, an £8000 Dyke. Final bidder at 3000gns, was Eoin McKenna, Tullykeeran, Maghera.
