Female Show and Sale report
27th February 2010

ANNUAL FEMALE SHOW AND SALE 2010

A large crowd of spectators and buyers turned up to the Blackface Sheep Breeders' Association annual show and sale of in lamb females, held at Lanark Auction Mart on Saturday 27th February 2010. Although a smaller entry than in previous years, the quality forward was exceptional, resulting in the 36 sold to averaged £974.17, which was up £413.51 on the year for 17 less sold. 9 Ewes averaged £1472.33 and 27 Gimmers averaged £808.11

Gimmers;- 1st No 4 -J Wight & Sons, Midlock; 2nd No 22 Mary McColl Smith, Connachan; 3rd No 40 H Blackwood, Auldhouseburn. 4th No 14 A Woodburn, Netherwood.
Ewes;- 1st No 33 E Macmillan, Lurg; 2nd No 41 H Blackwood, Auldhouseburn. 3rd No 16 A Woodburn, Netherwood. 4th No 12 J Murray, Crossflat.
Champion  Ewe from E Macmillan, Lurg.
Reserve Champion  Ewe from H Blackwood, Auldhouseburn

The show Champion was from Ewan MacMillan, Lurg, Fintry, this ewe, catalogue no 33, went on to fetch the top price of the day of 4000gns, she was purchased by Robert Kay from Gass and Ian Findlay from Blackcraig.
Reserve Champion was the second prize ewe from Hugh Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, which sold to 2500gns to the Judge, Graham Loughery from Northern Ireland. Hugh also achieved the second top prize of the day for catalogue no 40, this gimmer, which stood third in her class, made 3000gns to McInness & Heads, Aitkenhead. Rab McInnes and Stuart Heads also purchased three other sheep, they paid 1600gns for Lot 12 from John Murray Crossflat, secured the first Connachan gimmer in the ring, Lot 21 at 1200gns and bought the second gimmer from John Murray for 420gns.
Other leading prices:- Midlock -1400gns to R Park, Islay; Netherwood - 1500gns to Jackson, Blackmount & 1300gns to L Leuscher, Glendinning Estate; Blackhouse - 1000gns to Campbell, Succoth; Lurg - 1000gns to Walker, Cramie.

The only North type forward from David Baillie, Calla sold well. He received 1000gns for lot no 1, a gimmer which went to Conway Brothers, Northern Ireland. Lot 2, also a gimmer made 900gns to Curran, Northern Ireland.
