Lanark Shearling Ram sale report. Averages: Ring 1 - 330 shearling rams, £1878.76 (+£493.93 for 32 less). Ring 2 - 288 shearling rams, £440.28 (+£77.88 for eight fewer). Blackface sheep breeders celebrated this year's much improved trade for store lambs, ewe lambs and draft ewes with a bumper two-day sale of shearling and ram lambs at Lanark on the 15th & 16th October, which witnessed no fewer than 28 five-figure prices and overall averages well up on the year in both sections. In a trade reminiscent of the mid 1990s, breeders - keen to invest in the future and overall improvement of their breed - rolled over cash recouped from previous sales in a bid to buy the best stock rams available, which, following several top notch tup sales with increased averages at Newton Stewart, Stirling and Dalmally, saw shearling rams at Lanark, peak at £40,000 while ram lambs sold to an amazing £60,000 the following day.
